A Full Breakdown of Yamamoto’s MLB Debut (Batter by Batter)

The first pitch of the game and of his anticipated MLB Debut was a fastball to Xander Boegarts that was hit through the infield for a single.

2nd at bat was to Fernando Tatis Jr. Yamamoto hit him with a pitch allowing him to get on base.

Jake Cronenworth recorded the first RBI off of the Japanese Pitcher as he hit a Triple, allowing both Bogaerts and Tatis to score. The score after 9 pitches for Yoshinobu Yamamoto was 2-0.

Looking for his first out he then faced Manny Machado in the clean up spot. Yamamoto would find his 2nd walk of the evening and the 4 concecutive batter to reach base safely. Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior met him on the mound for a meeting.

The 5th batter of the inning finally saw the first out recorded by Yamamoto, but it did come with some damage. Ha-Seong Kim, who was playing again in his home country of South Korea hit a sacrifice fly to allow Cronenworth to score. 20 pitches in, and the Dodgers trailed by three.

We finally see the first strikeout in what should be many more in Yamamoto’s career. His first was off the 6th batter he faced Jurickson Profar on a cutter inside.

The next batter brought in another tally to the score column as Luis Campusano hit an RBI double down the 3rd base line and under the glove of Max Muncy.

8th batter of the inning Tyler Wade joined the RBI party as he hit a line drive single to right field and brought the score to 5-0 Padres. 37 pitches in, and five runs have scored.

Yamamoto finally gets out of the inning after seeing the entire Padres batting order. He finds his 2nd and final strikeout of the contest against rookie Jackson Merrill. The strikeout pitch was a breaking ball inside, the best off-speed pitch he through his entire outing.

He did not come out for the 2nd inning after the taxing 43 pitches thrown in the first. 20 minutes of actual game time is all it took for Yamamoto in his MLB Debut.
